Replicated NEVER Duplicated-Grace Jones

Grace Jones on cover of V Magazine

…And that’s exactly who I was for the day- 1980s black icon, the incredible Grace Jones. Famed for her unique style and striking features, the now 61-year-old continues to epitomise individuality and androgyny. Regarded as frightening to some, but  to others-a photographer’s dream, Ms. Jones possesses a sense of questionable beauty coveted by the world of popular culture and fashion.

Perched in the reclining leather chair while friend, and up and coming make-up artist, Natalie Posteraro practiced her magic on my naked face, for one day only I became an artist’s muse. Inspired by the 2009 Spring Preview issue of V Magazine shot by world-renowned photographer Jean-Paul Goude, of which she graced the cover with a controversial lit cigarette, I was transformed into a work of art by the hands of my very own Picasso.

To recreate this dramatic look my face was first prepped and moisturised with 1.) Laura Mercier Foundation Primer, a vital step to achieving the flawless base, and then using a foundation and blusher brush continued to contour and highlight my cheekbones, jaw line and forehead with 2.) Black Grease make-up. (For recommended day-to-day natural highlighting of the face Benefit Moon Beam will achieve the desired effect.) Angular effect achieved, my many blemishes were covered with 3.) Bobbi Brown Face Touch-up Stick in Warm Walmnut, before applying 4.) Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15 in Walm Walnut.

Do I make a good Grace?!

To create the intense eye effect, Natalie first contoured my eyes with 5.) Ben Nye products before using 6.) MAC Chromaline Black Black and 7.) Shu Uemera Eye Liner BlackFinishing off the look, 8.) MAC Blusher in Coy Girl was applied to the apples of my cheeks and outwards towards the temples, 9.) Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder was dusted over to eliminate any shine and last, but not least 10.) MAC Red tip Pencil and 11.) Lipmix Lip Pigment gave my lips that sultry finish, along with 12.) Vanilla Bean Lipbalm. And for that dash of Jones glamour 13.) Bodyshop Sparkle Eye Liner replaced my usual eyebrows. “Et voilà! Fini!”

So what’s the verdict?…
